Mouth Watering Chakkappazham | Jackfruit Day July 4 |

The super tasty giant fruit, Chakkappazham, became the state fruit of Kerala in 2018. As we all know, it is called Jackfruit in English, which was derived from the Portuguese name of fruit - jaca. Historians say that the Portuguese who landed in kerala, were amazed by the fruit and started calling it jaca, as a failed attempt to pronounce Chakka.

Jackfruit has many benefits, it is high in protein vitamins B & C, Antioxidants and Pottssium.

It's seeds are loaded with thiamin and riboflavin which are good for eyes, skin and hair. The latest research proves that eating unripe jackfruit is great to control type-2 diabetes.

The tree belongs to the mulberry family and its scientific name is Artocarpus Heterophyllus. There are many varieties of Plavu, and in Kerala, the 2 main varients are Varikka and Koozha.

Jackfruit is the National fruit of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and also the state fruit of Tamil Nadu.
